Rev. Paul Britner: Ingathering Water Ceremony

The main feature of this service will be the Gathering of Waters, both real and symbolic, from members and friends sharing their summer experiences. Paul will have a short homily on the resilience of water, and there will be special music by our newly formed UUFGC Singers. Members and friends are invited to bring a small amount of water from a place that has been meaningful to them during the summer. It may come from an ocean, lake, river, or mountain stream. It may also come from a backyard garden, a kitchen faucet, or another ordinary place made meaningful by memory. The importance lies not in how far the water has traveled, but in the story and spirit it carries.

Rev. Michael Franch: “Here We Are, Together Again”

Many congregations meet year round, but September marks the beginning of a new “church year.” That’s a good time to celebrate our congregational community, but also to think about what we want from our time together. What do we want from our religion? I’ve got what I want down to two pairs of words: behave and belief is one pair, and think and feel is the other pair. I look to my religion to provide both the intellectual and emotional content to help me determine how to live and the emotional “oomph” to live that way. I look forward to sharing thoughts and feelings with you on September 20th. Rev. Franch is Affiliate Minister with First Unitarian Church of Baltimore.

Ilene Evans: “The Lion’s Whisker”

Ilene Evans will share an old Ethiopian folktale, with themes of healing and redemption in relationships. Ms. Evans is an inspired storyteller, performer and scholar who weaves music, poetry, dance, and drama, to bring history alive. She has toured extensively across the US and internationally with her historical and original works.
