September 2025 Services

September 7, 10:45 a.m.
Ingathering Water Ceremony with Rev. Paul Britner and Congregation

Paul will conduct the service and include a brief homily appropriate to the topic, but the main feature of this service will be the gathering of waters, both real and symbolic, from members and friends sharing their summer experiences. If you have visited some place, and collected water from that place, please bring it with you to share.

September 14, 10:45 a.m.  Rev. Paul Britner: “Awe”

The Unitarian theologian James Luther Adams writes that faith begins with the recognition that we are subject to forces we did not create and cannot control. For Rev. Paul, that idea is captured in the concept of awe, which includes both wonder and dread — powers greater than our own for both our benefit and burden.

Rev. Michael Franch: “Three Two-Word Rules for Life”

I have a sermon called “My Religion in Three Sentences (Plus Commentary).” My three sentences contained seventeen words. I took about 2,600 words to explain the seventeen words. I still like that sermon, but I feel challenged to be more succinct. I’m calling my latest effort “Three Two-Word Rules for Life.” That’s only six words! Of course, they’ll require commentary. What the ratio of my words to my discussion of them will be revealed on September 21st. I’ll tell you now, though, that they focus more on behavior than belief — but will work with and enhance a wide variety of religious beliefs.

Rev. Franch serves as Affiliate Minister with First Unitarian Church of Baltimore.

September 28, 10:45 a.m.  Rev. Dr. Kate R. Walker: “Hopeful Living”

Come join me as I explore creating hope as witnesses, allies, advocates and activists in a complex and overwhelming time in US history.

Rev. Walker serves as the minister with First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh.
