June 2025 Services

June 1, 10:45 a.m. – “Spirituality and the Creative Arts”

The arts can help us express our spirituality, values, or most deeply held beliefs, either through the creative works of others or works that we create ourselves. Creative expression may help us find meaning, peace, or a sense of connection, or express a sense of awe, gratitude, or the divine. It might be music, painting, poetry, photography, nature journaling, quilting, or any number of other creative outlets. In this service several members of the congregation will share how they find the creative arts meaningful in their spiritual journey.

June 8, 10:45 a.m. – Rev. Paul Britner: “Why DEI is Important”

Diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI for short, represent values that used to be taken for granted, at least since the advent of the modern civil rights movement, including those that challenge patriarchy and white supremacism. Those values are under attack by those who would return the United States to the values that defined our nation in 1776, which include freedom and liberty, but which excluded Blacks, women, Native Americans, and non-European immigrants. This message explains why this fight—among the many in which we are engaged—could be the most meaningful of all.

After the service on June 8th, all are invited to stay for a pot luck lunch. Please bring something to share if you would like.

June 15, 10:45 a.m. – JD Stillwater: Flower Communion

June 15 is our last service of this church year, our annual flower communion. Besides being beautiful and colorful, flowers remind us of the glorious diversity of our fellow humans and the family of life. Flowers are a living testament to the communion of life that forms the basis of all life on earth, because, generous as they are with their nectar, pollen, and scent, their purpose is only served through cooperation with their far-distant cousins: animal pollinators. That deep cooperation and mutuality provides for Earth’s thriving. Come, join with the flowers in the sharing. Bring some flowers to share if you can. You are also invited to bring a poem, short reading, or personal story about flowers to share in the service.

Services will resume on September 7.
