June 2, 10:45 – Tom Bowling: “The Wisdom of Uncertainty”
This service will explore how embracing uncertainty can improve our personal, civic, and professional lives. We will explore, for example, how focusing on uncertainties rather than definitive statements in simple conversations can bridge divides. We can approach divides with intellectual and cultural humility, and the understanding that science is real and facts matter.
June 9, 10:45 – Rev. Paul Britner: “Answering Your Call”
Finally, a sermon that answers the question, “What is the meaning of life?” Well, that may be a bit much, but it does answer the question of how you may discern your calling and gifts, which will help to answer that larger question of life’s meaning.
June 16, 10:45 – JD Stillwater: “Awetheism Part 1: Awe, Science, and Meaningful Well-Being”
New research into the experience of awe reveals that feeling awe makes us better, happier, more generous people. With help from some well-timed lightning strikes (and none from Siri or Alexa), we’ll explore what’s known about awe, humility, and the wonderful word “eudaimonia.” We’ll also learn how science can help us get to them all, plugging us into a grander vision of our larger selves within our communities, world, and universe.
June 23, 10:45 – Flower Ceremony, followed by a soup lunch
The flower ceremony is a celebration of beauty, resilience, diversity, and community. Please bring a flower to contribute to the bouquet. (We’ll have extra flowers.) You are invited to stay after the service for lunch and fellowship. This will be our final service for 2023-24. Services will resume on 9/8/24.
