May 2024 Services

May 5th, 10:45 a.m.  – JD Stillwater: “Combustion Addiction: 12 Steps to Climate Recovery”

Our dependence on fossil fuels looks an awful lot like addiction. Could the 12 steps of AA offer any helpful guidance as we seek a way out? If climate change is a moral and spiritual crisis, maybe a 12-step-style “spiritual awakening” can help.

May 12th, 10:45 a.m. – Rev. Paul Britner: “The Mothers of Our Faith”

This message explores three prominent women in our faith tradition: two Unitarians, Judith Sargent Murray and Maria Mitchell, and one Universalist, Olympia Brown.

This Sunday’s collection will go to “Safe Shelter”, a no kill shelter located in Flintstone.

May 19th, 10:45 a.m. – Rev. Kimberley Debus: “Considering Darwin: What are we missing in our thinking about evolution?”

In this service, we’ll consider what might actually be the secret to surviving and thriving.

May 26th, 10:45 a.m. – Rev. Jonalu Johnstone – “That The Dead Would Be Honored”

The UUA has never been a “peace church” like the Mennonites or Quakers, yet we have a strong longing for peace and have often worked against military intervention. How does that truth reconcile with honoring those who have died in war? As war rages in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Sudan, what do we owe the war dead — “ours” or others? And how do we keep from adding more to the count?
