Water Service
This is our traditional welcoming return from summer break by sharing water. Bring water to share (from summer travels, or from the tap). We join our water in a common bowl, sharing our story and the meaning of water in our lives. The service will be followed by a reception welcoming Rev. Paul Britner as our minister.

Rev. Paul Britner – “The Journey of My Faith”
This message describes how the Grand Canyon and a chance phone call transformed a Methodist minister’s son from radical atheism into a UU minister with an eclectic mix of religious humanism, Christian Unitarianism, Quaker simplicity and 12-step principles.

Bob Clegg – “Go Ask Alice”
Who is ALICE, and why should we care? “ALICE” is an acronym for “Asset Limited, Income Constrained, but Employed,” – in other words, the working poor. Data for ALICE reports are collected in at least 23 states every two years. These ALICE reports are used to raise awareness and understanding of the real nature of poverty (vs. the absurd definition set by the federal poverty line), as well as to inspire action and generate innovative solutions for poverty in America. This talk and discussion will introduce you to a valuable tool for economic activism, show how it can be used to make our world better for every one of us, and challenge us all to think about the morality of a economy where nearly three out of ten citizens work for paychecks that still don’t cover their basic family needs at the end of the month.
